Valentines E-Blast
MUUV People: Clair Ingraham
My name is Clair (Clairibel) Ingraham. I have been active all my life, participating in tennis, skiing, aerobics, and running. I have always been interested in doing yoga, but did not have time until after retirement. I met Jenny Lewis and started taking yoga from her in 2003 at the age of 70. The first time Jenny asked me to try an arm balance in class, I said, “you want me to do what?” And the rest is history!
I was born in 1933 and grew up on a cattle ranch in southeast Kansas. I had a horse instead of a bicycle, no electricity, and had to go a mile north or south to the neighbors to use a phone. My brother and I walked 1-1/2 miles to a one-room school for grades 1-8. We did have a battery-operated radio though and, thankfully, progressed to phones, electricity, and TV when I was in high school.
After high school I entered nursing school in Wichita, Kansas, and graduated with an RN in 1954. I went back to school and obtained a B.A. in Psychology in 1979.
I worked in psychiatry for five years and then for an oral surgeon for one year. Following that, I worked in Labor and Delivery at a hospital from 1961 until retirement in 2002. While there, I worked at many levels as staff nurse, head nurse, manager, department head, and clinical supervisor.
My husband Floyd and I have been married for 55 years! We have one son, Michael, born in 1960 who is a Chemical Engineer in Naperville, Illinois and a wonderful daughter-in-law, Brianna, who is an emergency room RN. I also have two beautiful grandchildren, Connor 16 and Taylor Ann 14.
Yoga has been a very positive experience for me. From a physical aspect, yoga has helped me develop strength, improve my flexibility and find better balance. It is both relaxing and a challenge; providing a sense of accomplishment and a release of stress. The challenge is the new and more difficult poses and accomplishment comes with mastering that new pose or improving a pose. Relaxation and relief of stress come with thinking only of yoga while doing the practice. It means so much to me to have yoga in my life, Jenny as my teacher and the beautiful space to practice in at MUUV. I hope all who are interested will join us at practice.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful and inspiring story with us Clair!
*Jenny Lewis teaches at MUUV Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month at 8:30 a.m. You will catch Clair in her Saturday classes!
Yoga Video at MUUV
This video was created by the people at bodybuilding.com. It was made to highlight their team member Jillian Farmer (in blue). This video was part of a larger video effort, to show that being an athlete can take many forms, even yoga. The video shows the MUUV studio’s main floor beautifully and the music is fun too! Good job!
Claudia Button: Rock Star Designer
Claudia Button at Foerstel Design does AMAZING work! Way back in the day when I first discovered Deep Dance Experience, we started working with Claudia to create the DDX logo and website and the rest is history.
Claudia takes much pride in being THE designer at Foerstel who works on everything for MUUV and DDX, and that’s just the way she likes it! The gorgeous holiday e-blast below, is a perfect example of the talent Claudia brings to the table.
I am so thankful for her and the image she has helped create for MUUV. Thank you Claudia!
MUUV People: Vicki Hodge
Vicki Hodge has spent her life enjoying dancing as part of a fit and healthy lifestyle. Vicki first pursued dance as a member of drill team at Capital High School in her hometown of Boise. Vicki attended Boise State University for one year and then transferred to San Diego State University where she studied ecology and environmental issues in pursuit of her undergraduate degree. In 1992, Vicki obtained AFA Certification and began teaching step aerobics classes, and in 1993, Vicki completed her Bachelor’s degree at California State University Northridge in Elementary Education. While finishing post-graduate California credential requirements, Vicki was on staff at 24-Hour Fitness Center in Pasadena and also the Burbank YMCA, leading step classes using hip-hop mix tapes made by her husband Art. Vicki also led fitness classes in an inner-city elementary fitness program, called “Fit for Life,” sponsored by various corporations and designed to inspire less fortunate children to pursue a healthy lifestyle oriented toward dance and contemporary music.
